Organisation
The proposal team for our application to host ICW2025 will be headed by Professor Trent Woodruff, who has over 20 years research training in Complement, and a strong history with the International Complement Society. He is based in Brisbane at The University of Queensland, and has robust knowledge of both proposal destinations. He is joined by a dynamic team of experienced and early-career researchers including A/Prof Marc Ruitenberg (University of Queensland), A/Prof Barbara Rolfe, A/Prof Richard Clark, A/Prof Melinda Coughlan (Monash University, Melbourne), and Dr John Lee (University of Queensland).
LOC
Prof Trent Woodruff
The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
Dr Woodruff has studied complement for his entire career.
His specific research focuses on the biological and pathological roles of C3a and C5a, and the utility of anaphylatoxin receptors to treat inflammatory and neurological disease.
A/Prof Barbara Rolfe
The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
A/Prof Barbara Rolfe is a Group Leader at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. A/Prof Rolfe is an immunologist and cell biologist, whose major research interests are the role of the innate immune system in cancer, the identification of novel therapeutic strategies for cancer, and nanomaterial safety.
A/Prof Marc Ruitenberg
The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
Dr Ruitenberg works at the interface between the nervous and immune system, investigating the role of complement and inflammation in complex neurological conditions such as spinal cord injury.
A/Prof Richard Clark
The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
Dr Clark is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Sciences where he is Head of the Peptide Chemical Biology Lab.
A/Prof Melinda Coughlan
Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
Dr Coughlan studies dietary factors that drive the initiation of diabetes, and the discovery of new targets, including complement, for the treatment of diabetic complications.
Dr John Lee
The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
Dr Lee is an early career researcher who studies complement as a driver of brain disease. He also has an emerging interest in the links between the complement system, stress responses, and energy metabolism.
Hosting Society
The International Complement Society is a professional society which promotes advances of complement research and development through the encouragement of cooperative educational programs, clinical applications, and professional standards in the complement field.
